Summer Daze

Summer. I love everything about it. The heat. The beach. The dinners eaten outside. The long afternoons, the lazy days, the dreaming. It's the time to take a break from everything and connect with who and what you love. As I check out from reality on the weekends, this is what I've been up to lately. You? What do you enjoy most?

I've been sleeping a lot lately (read: more than 6 hours per night), so I was surprised how tired I felt this Sunday afternoon. I blame the food coma. Earlier, I enjoyed a fun brunch date with my husband and indulged in eggs benedict on brioche. Thus, a catnap under the shade of our orange tree seemed justified. When I looked over I found that my Little Dude had quietly joined me. Bliss.

This is our orange tree and the summer sky that I was resting under. It makes me happy to see it everytime I walk into our yard. There's something about the citrus colors in relief against the blue that make me smile. Or maybe it's because the Little Dude and I have started a new ritual of making fresh squeezed OJ in the morning before he heads to school.

His idea of fun. Is it wrong of me to hope he never loses interest in this type of play?

Hide-and-seek is a family favorite. He inherited his love of suspense and a good scare from me. "Boo!" You jumped, right?!

I heart art. But you already know that about me. The LA museums have great summertime shows and events, including my fave Friday night music and tacos at LACMA (perfect for the whole fam). Isn't this poster rad, by the way? My friend Alan Stuart of One Long House created it along with the event site and an awesome sound app where artists share their inspiration.

Simple summer dinner. It requires no skill, but tastes wonderful. My kind of meal...always.

I wish I could enjoy the season more frequently than the weekend. Two days just aren't enough! I long for an endless summer where all the days and nights run together and ice cream is its own food group. What are your plans for the rest of the season?
