{Featured Friday Review & Giveaway} New Music
Thanks to my proclaimed love for children’s music and the hip new “kindie” rock scene, I’ve gotten some great music sent to me over the past few weeks and I wanted to share some of it with you.

Science Fair from Spare the Rock Records A compilation album featuring some of my favorite children’s music artists like Elizabeth Mitchell and Renee & Jeremy, Science Fair features several well-written and very dance-able tunes about - you guessed it! - science. If you loved Here Comes Science by They Might Be Giants, you’re going to love Science Fair. Plus, the proceeds from the album go to Girls, Inc., an organization that works to improve science education for girls. Science Fair is available on Amazon and iTunes.

A Curious Children’s Album by John Wakefield Now, this one wasn’t exactly what I expected. This album isn’t for kids. It’s about the experience of raising them. A true labor of love, John describes it as “great blog posts put to music.” You will definitely find yourself nodding (and laughing) at several of the songs. The music itself reminded me of some of my favorite Broadway shows. So if you’ve found yourself wishing Rent had more relevance to your life as a parent, then this album is for you! A Curious Children's Album is available on iTunes and Amazon.

Take This Town by Makenzie Caine Another album that isn’t technically for kids but one I think the whole family can enjoy. Makenzie’s voice is completely lovely and the songs are all sweetly written and crafted. If you are a fan of Elizabeth Mitchell or folk artist Dar Williams, I think you’ll like Makenzie. Her song “Sweet Baby” about new motherhood had me tearing up and her version of Cat Steven’s "Moonshadow" had Griffin dancing. Take This Town is available on iTunes and Amazon.

I think I'd like the Makenzie Caine album! After launching into a browse on the iTunes Store after reading one of your posts a couple of weeks ago, we had two albums on repeat around here. The first is a great, mellow group of covers from Renee & Jeremy called A Little Love. The other is a compilation album called The Bottle Let me Down - Songs for Bumpy Wagon Rides. The latter is really aimed at kids older than mine, but I enjoy it so she gets to hear it, too.
I'm always up for new CD's. I love the good old songs on some of our "fisher price" cd's for our son. Our newest kid friendly CD is by Jewel her Merry Go Round CD. I't cute and the songs get stuck in my head. As my son grows I'd love to introduce him to more music. He's 10 months now.
I love this girl! She is only 16, and I can't stop listening to her songs!
Her name is Delaney Simpson

I heard a piece on NPR about the band Milo Greene and loved their music. The best part is how they came up with the name - they made up a promoter to get better gigs. Good stuff!
I always love your kid music suggestions, SSH!
I'm always looking for kid-friendly things I can fill Aunt Jessica time with.
New music? The last bit that came into our house was from VBS. I'm seriously in need of some new kid stuff. ;) For me, I like Trent Dabbs' album Southerner and I'm expanding my listening on Pandora. I'm a tried and true Sara Groves fan though. Everything she sings, I buy.
My kidos (age 4 and 19 months) have recently decided that they LOVE dancing to Latin Rock. Pancho Sanchez is the new hit at our house for all of our impromptu dance parties. The best part - I dont have to worry if the lyrics are inappropriate, as none of us will be able to tell!
I can't get "Beautiful You" by Trent Monk out of my mind...low key, with q perfect summer kitchsy beat!
